Caribbean Street Party…
Street party is also Caribbean thing and St.Lucia has the oldest street party that is still going on till now (Feb.2024), every Friday evening. It was an interesting evening with many street foods and shops. Duke’s place is known to have the best fish, but you have to be patient to stay in the que.
The party starts around 6 pm till morning and the music changes when the day gets later… In the beginning, as many tourists coming, so they have mostly English pop songs. Then it turns to soca, reggaetone music, which I love, as I’m a zumba instructor… J
Nature Beauty of St.Lucia
Honestly, I’m not really a beach person, I can stay one or two days on the beach. Then I would like to do something else. St.Lucia offers me to do some walks and hiking in her nature beauty.
I did Pigeon Island, which had a connected road from the main land by land reclamation. This island is very green with two hills to climb. But it is still an island in the big ocean, so I did a short hike to the hills but also snorkeling at the beach. On top of one of the hills, there is a fortress ruin and the other hill has magnificent view of the Piton! Actually, this island was used as military based and we could still read about the history when we’re in the island. As a foreigner, I had to pay 10 USD entrance fee. I love this visit, after 2 days at the beach, this island offers a slightly different view and activities.
The other hike that I did, was during the island tour, Tet Paul Hike. It was not so difficult and again it offers a magical view of the Piton! Seeing two beautiful views, it encouraged me to also doing the hiking in the Gros Piton, on my last day in St.Lucia. It was not an easy hike, I paid the entrance fee 50 USD, including the guide. I really used my sweat, tears, no blood to climb this mountain. It was difficult terrain, although I had a good walking boots. The heat was kicking hot, although I started at 7.30 in the morning. I could enjoy the amazing view of Petit Piton on the way. And reaching the top which was not much place, but just enough to do my jumping, gave a feeling on top of the world surround the ocean. I felt good, however, I just realized that I still need to walk back. In total I did the climb up and down in about 4 hours. I cannot be not proud of myself, after this climb and it also gives me a good feeling to come home the next day.
Last thing, I just want to share that indeed this island has many street and stray dogs, which sometimes break my heart! 🥲
