In June 2025, I joined a soulful yoga retreat on the breathtaking Faroe Islands, Denmark. Hosted by Havdypp, the experience blended sauna rituals, hot and cold sea dips in the wild North Atlantic, and daily hikes through stunning landscapes.

Getting there was an adventure itself—I flew in via Billund and returned through Copenhagen. A pre-booked taxi picked me up at Vágar Airport, where I met one fellow retreater and the third person was Sunova, who’d been sitting next to me on the plane—what are the odds?

A scenic 25-minute drive brought us to Sykkio, home to our cozy retreat house. Welcomed warmly by our hosts—Emma, Stine, and Amalie—I instantly fell in love with my room and its peaceful beach view. Serene doesn’t even begin to describe it.

That afternoon, I set off alone on a short hike to the quaint village of Kvívík, tucked on the opposite side of the peninsula. I wandered past a small harbor, an old cemetery, and a charming white church—my first true taste of Faroese tranquility.

Later, we all hiked together above the hills near the retreat. We spotted Faroese horses, learned about their unique way of planting potatoes by flipping turf, and saw our retreat house nestled in the dramatic landscape. The Faroe Islands had already started working their quiet magic on us.
