Today, one day before the last day in April (29 April), my next stop is Chiloe island which is more south from Puerto Varas, without knowing it, I am in Pathagonia already (the northern part).
Took the 30 mnt ferry in Pargua, from the top deck, I saw some birds, like pelicans, seagulls, hawks, etc. No Orca tough. Then with a driver and my guide, Antonio, we drove into the island. It was a beautiful day, dry and some sunshine.
The landscape is green due to 200 days raining here and farming land with sheep, cows, pigs, fish: clams, muscle, salmon, etc.. All the houses here are from woods and so colorful in order to give more color to the grey days. The churches are also colorful and all from wood.
The first stop was Quemchi, there was a fire on the main square. I passed the wooden bridge to Aucar island where they use for cemetery and there is a small chapel. Then we went to Tenaun, Dalcahue and last stop in Castro.
In different villages, I admired the different colors of the wooden houses and churches. I had lunch in the market in Dalcahue, very traditional food market where they served traditional food, like Curanto (It is a mixed of different kinds of clams and muscles, chicken, smoke pork, sausages and some potatoes dumpling, you get also a cup of soup with it). The seafood soup is also very traditional and delicious. And of course salmon dish. Salmon fishery everywhere. Then I had to buy a colorful woolen head! I just have to!
When I was dropped in my hotel, in Castro, here where I got introduced to the colorful chaotic of palafitos, as my hotel is one of this palafitos house. It is the house that stands on poles (Palafitos in Spanish). I just fell in love with it, colorful, a bit chaotic, surrounded by water so many birds around… feel close to nature. A real colorful chaotic! ;-)
