I woke up today in the city of Argentinian Tango and football, Buenos Aires (BA). I’m not going to do football but I’ll for sure mingle with the locals and dance Tango in town!
BA is a big city and I only have 1 full day here… so I took a city tour for half day just to get orientation about the city. In this city tour, I got introduced to the north part of the city, Palermo, where the modern and European style areas, which is now where the embassies are. In the old days, those were private houses.
Then the middle part of the city, Recoleta area: the cemetery where Evita was buried, the famous Avenida 9 de Julio which has at least 5 lanes on each direction and the green stroke in the middle and Plaza de Mayo where the Cathedrale & Casa Rosada located. I crossed several times this wide avenida and felt amazing, in the middle of the avenida, there is the obelisk (as a symbol of BA) and the BA sign also. Then theatro Colon which built by 3 different architects: 2 Italian and the last one was Belgian using all materials from Europe! Full of granites, gold room and it is one of the best theaters in the world till now. It has its own workshop under ground and what I can say, beautiful! The cathedral doesn’t look like a cathedral, more like a court building and Casa Rosada is the presidential office.
The southern part of the city, San Telmo and ofcourse the famous La Boca areas, where you can see the colorful caminitos. Caminitos is actually the traditional houses that the Italian settlements built, they used the materials from their ship/ boat to build their house. So very creative, very different and nowadays very colorful too. There are painters everywhere, selling their best paintings about the caminitos and tango dancers. The street is about 1km long full of souvenir shops and restaurants with some Tango dancers that are dancing or pose with you for picture. Interesting areas!
Then I went to Puerto Madero, the old harbor of BA and now the other sides is the new Ba with skyscraper for either apartment and offices. I had a nice long walk over there, enjoying the sun, before going back to my hotel.
I took a nap before my interesting evening, dancing tango with the locals at de Milongas. I passed Hard Rock Café Buenos Aires also to have a drink and a light dinner before going dancing. I really had fun dancing! Ofcourse, I put on my skirt, hair up and a bit of make up. Not to forget my dancing shoes as well! I learned with Argentinian Tango, just be closed to the partner and listen, feel the music and taddddaaaa… I’m dancing Argentinian Tango. I danced with different men and really improved my dancing skills with the locals. Dancing Argentinian Tango in BA, checked!
Btw, I also feel safe in this big city, went out till midnight in the city.
